Chlamydia/GC

To screen for or diagnose Chlamydia infection If you are sexually active, pregnant, have one or more risk factors for developing Chlamydia, or have symptoms, such as vaginal discharge and abdominal pain (for women) or unusual discharge from the penis or pain on urination (for men); depending on your risk factors, may be annually To screen for or diagnose an infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which causes the STD gonorrhea If you are sexually active, pregnant, have one or more risk factors for developing gonorrhea, or have symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge, bleeding associated with vaginal intercourse, or burning/painful urination (for women) or a pus-like discharge from the penis or a burning sensation during urination (for men)

Herpes 1 and 2

To screen for or diagnose infection with the herpes simplex virus. Simplex 1 is often referred to as cold sores or fever blisters. They occur mostly on the face and look like tiny, fluid-filled blisters. They can also develop as wounds on the skin. It can be transmitted by kissing, sharing eating utensils, or by sharing towels. Herpes Simplex 2 usually results in sores on the buttocks, penis, vagina, or cervix. Sexual intercourse is the most frequent means of getting Simplex 2.

HIV

To determine if you are infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) one month to three months after you think you may have been exposed to the virus. HIV is a virus that kills or damages cells of the body's immune system. HIV most often spreads through unprotected sex with an infected person, but can also be spread from sharing needles or from coming in contact with the infected person's blood. The average time for the antibody to be detected is two weeks. A Consent Form must be completed prior to testing if you order through our 800 number. Otherwise, it is stated in the terms of agreement.

RPR

RPR (rapid plasma reagin) is a screening test for syphilis. Syphilis is an infectious disease. The bacteria that causes it spreads through broken skin or mucous membranes. It is most often spread by sexual contact. If you have sores in the genital area or on your hands you should have this lab performed. When a person has syphilis their are antibodies that are produced in response to it. It looks for antibodies that are present in the blood of people who have the disease.
