Creating a Work Life Balance

Now that you’re working from home and staying home more often, you may find it hard to maintain a work life balance. Even during a pandemic, it’s crucial to build some kind of work life balance to have some kind of normalcy. But with the number of activities you can safely do during the non-work hours of the day, you may be at a loss for what to do. Creating a work life balance may have some added health effects, especially if it helps to decrease your stress levels. With Sterling Wellness Solutions, we want to see you live a healthier life and work to provide strategies to achieve that.

How Stress Affects The Body

Stress negatively affects your body and may result in different types of health problems. When you’re stressed, it’s harder for you to fall and stay asleep. When that happens, you may eat extra food out of boredom, which can lead to gaining weight.

Stress also leads to headaches. Many people have experienced stress headaches. When they occur during the workday, it makes it hard to concentrate. That may lead to frustrations that spill over into the after work hours.

Unplug at The End of The Day

When the end of your workday hits, take the time to unplug at the end of the day. It doesn’t do your mental wellbeing any good if you’re constantly checking your work email at the end of the day. In fact, it may increase your overall stress levels, especially if you check your email for something bad. Have a hard cut off so you can take the time to enjoy the people around you when you aren’t working.

Exercise and Eat Right

The foods you eat matter. The amount of exercise also matters. Your body responds best to the right mix of vitamins and minerals and also works best when you’ve incorporated regular exercise into your routines. Even if you don’t have access to the gym right now, there’s plenty you can do around the house that you can use to get a workout in. A healthy diet and regular exercise helps in reducing the likelihood of developing chronic illness down the road.

Set Time Aside for Family

Finally, set aside time for the members of your family. If you regularly work late hours that aren’t part of your normal working hours, you may not get to see much of your family, which may put a damper on family bonding. Instead, set aside time where you all can regularly spend time with each other. That can take on many different forms, including cooking together or having a regular movie or game night.

Creating a work life balance helps re-engage your mind from work-related tasks. It also gives you some way to connect with those around you, even in these COVID-19 times.
